The National Education Union represents more than 40,000 support staff members across the UK in the maintained, academy, free school, independent, further education, sixth form and university sectors, and this number is growing all the time.
The NEU welcomes into membership all professionals working in the education sector: teachers, teaching assistants, examination officers, technicians, librarians, lecturers, managers, administrators and ancillary staff.
The National Agreement on Pay and Conditions (more commonly referred to as the “Green Book”) covers nearly all support staff who work in the maintained and academy sectors in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
This guide has been produced for the use of local Officers and school Reps when dealing with support staff issues in maintained and academy school. It highlights the key differences between the Burgundy and Green Books, and also looks at other important questions, such as Term-Time Only (TTO) pay and Job Evaluation (JE).
