Thursday 15th May 2025 – Workplace Day of Action for Nakba Day

In Gaza, education has been entirely halted since October 2023 for over 625,000 children and 22,000 teachers. Over 17,000 children and more than 400 teachers and educational professionals have been killed. More than 95% of schools have been damaged or completely destroyed.

In the West Bank, at least 224 children have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers since January 2023. Access to education has also been severely disrupted for 782,000 students due to movement restrictions, military operations and settler violence.

Thursday 15th May is Nakba Day – we are answering the call of Palestinian trade unionists by taking action in our workplaces in the NEU.

Get in touch with your rep and NEU group in your workplace to join an action that works best for you, but we encourage all members to wear red!

Here are some actions suggested:

  • Wear red on the day in protest at the ongoing violence
  • Take a group photo in the staff room, printing off NEU signs to hold
  • Hold a lunchtime protest off site in solidarity with Palestinians – we can organise this amongst local schools
  • Organise a lunch-time meeting, teach-in or film screening to educate colleagues about the Palestinian struggle for freedom.
  • Hold a bake sale or similar to raise money for NEU save the children Gaza appeal
  • Organise members to cook Palestinian food and bring it to the staffroom to share and eat together at lunch
  • Hold a Disarm Education meeting – we affiliated to this organisation at national conference this year. Get in touch for more info
  • Distribute leaflets for the national demonstration for Palestine on Saturday 17th May in central London – let us know if you’d like these delivered to your school
